Does the Puma Speedcat OG run true to size? Should you size up?
We checked, on 16,874 real feet. We worked out the inside measurements of the Puma Speedcat OG in the standard width: the length, the width, and the forefoot volume (ball girth). Then we virtually fitted 16,874 real feet from our earlier in-store 3D foot scanners, the way someone shopping online would: Puma's size chart for length.
Puma size guide score
50/100
Puma's size guidance online gave the right size for 50% of 16,874 feet.
Does the Puma Speedcat OG run true to size?
For half of feet. If you follow Puma's size guidance online, the Speedcat OG fits true to size for 50% of feet. Here, true to size means the size Puma's online guidance gives you is less than a full size away from the size that fits best, with enough toe room and enough forefoot volume.
Puma's guidance leaves US shoppers with little to go on. Puma's US page for the Speedcat OG says only "Regular fit," and Puma's US size chart lists no foot length for any size, so a shopper can't match a foot measurement to a size. For our fittings, we used the foot lengths Puma publishes for the same sizes on its Australian site. The Speedcat OG comes in one width, so a different size is the only way to change the forefoot volume.
Should you size up or down in the Puma Speedcat OG?
Here is where every foot landed in the Speedcat OG when we followed Puma's size chart.
Following Puma's size guidance online
- Right size from the size chart50%
- Sized up for more forefoot volume18%
- Sized up for toe room only5%
- Sized down for less forefoot volume28%
Share of 16,874 feet. Each foot is counted once.
- Right size from the size chart: 50% of feet got a size that fit both their foot length and their forefoot volume. Puma's size chart worked well for this group in the Speedcat OG.
- Sized up for more forefoot volume: For 18% of feet, the Speedcat OG had too little forefoot volume at the size the chart gave. The Speedcat OG has no wide version, so going up a size was the only way to get more forefoot volume, and the bigger size also adds length in front of the toes.
- Sized up for toe room only: 5% of feet had enough forefoot volume, but the length the chart gave left their toes very little room. If your foot is near the long end of your size on Puma's chart, consider half a size up in the Speedcat OG.
- Sized down for less forefoot volume: For 28% of feet, the Speedcat OG had too much forefoot volume at the size the chart gave. The Speedcat OG has no narrow version, so a smaller size was the only way to get less forefoot volume, with less room in front of the toes.
How we measured
We measured the standard width of the Speedcat OG and virtually fitted 16,874 real feet from our earlier in-store 3D foot scanners. Out of 17,311 foot scans, those 16,874 feet fall in the sizes we tested (US men's 4 to 14). For every foot, we followed Puma's size guidance: the length chart, using the foot lengths from Puma's Australian site, in the standard width. A difference of a full size or more between Puma's size and the size that fits best counts as a miss. These numbers show how the Speedcat OG fits a large group of feet, not how the shoe feels on your feet.
